What is Chip Tuning? (AKA Flash Tuning)
Chip Tuning is a software upgrade to your vehicle to improve performance, economy and driveability. We extract your vehicle’s software and send it to our Tuner for modification on a Hexadecimal level, adjusting map tables like boost pressure and ignition timing. We then load the modified, unique file back into your vehicle.
Is Chip Tuning Safe?
The answer is not as simple as most would hope. Tuning requires checking external factors like the condition of spark plugs, coil packs, and ensuring you use 98 RON fuel. Advancing timing on worn plugs, for instance, can push them past their limit and cause misfires. The key to safety is choosing a leading software engineer, as we have done with Evolve Technik, having partnered with several globally to provide safe and reliable solutions.
Will the software impact my new car Warranty?
The short answer is yes. However, under Australian Consumer Affairs regulations, a manufacturer must prove the modification directly caused a malfunction. Manufacturers like BMW, AUDI, and VW can check for tunes during diagnosis and may automatically ‘Black Flag’ your VIN if tampering is detected. There are methods to make tunes undetectable on all late-model F-Series BMWs. We always advise speaking with us first if you have issues.
Will any modification affect my insurance?
Sometimes yes and sometimes no. It is best to check with your specific insurer – and as always shop around.
Why don't the manufacturers release the vehicles with higher power to start with?
Manufacturers design their vehicles for a global market and must meet a wide range of fuel, altitude, climate, and emissions standards. This leaves plenty of room within Australian and European tolerances for us to extract more performance while remaining within component limits.
Will Chip Tuning increase my fuel consumption?
No, in fact, quite the opposite! We often see improved fuel economy, particularly in turbo and diesel motors, which can see up to a 2-3L/100km improvement. This is because the increase in torque means less throttle is required to achieve a determined speed.
What is Pop & Bang / AK47 Feature?
This is the sound effect achieved when releasing the throttle, similar to cracking or burbling through the exhaust. We only offer this feature on Stage 2 cars with sports downpipes installed. This is because the unburnt fuel generated can damage factory catalytic converters and cause excessive heat, damaging turbochargers over time. We build in failsafes to turn the feature off if cylinder temperatures get too high.
What is the 'Drive before you buy' Policy?
Evolve Technik and its dealers offer this policy with every Flash Tune. If you do not like the changes after a test drive, we revert the vehicle back to stock, and you leave free of charge
What is your 12 Month Software Guarantee?
This guarantee allows the owner to upgrade their car from any stage for free in the first 12 months. We will also re-tune and de-tune your vehicle as many times as needed during this period. This protects your software if the manufacturer updates it during a service.
What is Evolve Plus?
Evolve Plus is our Membership and Warranty program. Benefits include: a 3-Year Limited Match Factory Warranty, an additional 12 months on our Software guarantee, eligibility for a 10% Loyalty Discount on future tunes, and access to exclusive member events. This is available to eligible customers with a car having less than 60,000km on the odometer.
